Creating Sustainable Community Dairy Operations Using Blockchain Technology

Under 4D’s leadership, a successful blockchain use case was designed for Maluti Maid dairy, aimed at identifying gaps in the milk value chain system from feed procurement to milk delivery to retailers. The blockchain project yielded three key outcomes:

Firstly, it provided valuable insights into managing feed price volatility while determining the purchase price with dairy farmers. This allowed for the protection of farmers’ profits and ensured a fair share for the farmers.

Secondly, the project identified gaps and opportunities in feed procurements, enabling farmers to make bulk purchases from South Africa. Through improved negotiations and reduced transportation costs, this approach effectively lowered the overall cost of feed, benefiting the dairy operation.

Lastly, the use case supported Maluti Maid in evaluating options for diversifying its product range. By leveraging blockchain technology, the dairy company could explore new product offerings and make informed decisions about expanding its business horizons.
